The Chairman’s Message

A warm welcome to the WFHS Web Pages! My name is Caroline Wetton. As a founder member of the WFHS and, for the past 6 years it's chairman, I have seen the Society's membership grow from a small group of enthusiasts to what it is today. Way back in 1986 when the society was in fledgling state I soon realised just what was required by out of area members. This was not simply a quarterly journal and a mention in the interests listings, but contact with the county where their ancestors resided.

Whilst I am delighted to see the ranks swell, I am also determined that this friendly approach is not lost. My main aim is to make all members feel that they are able to write or email me for help and advice. Quite recently one of our Australian members emailed me and stated "You make us feel like friends not just members". This is why we pride ourselves as the Friendly Family History Society a phrase taken from a letter from another member.

Family History plays a large part in my own life, I teach the subject full time and also carry out our research service. It leaves little time to research my own family these days but I am quite happy to adopt member's ancestors.
